ODM Party leader Raila Odinga and Mombasa Speaker Thadius Rajwayi have differed over the six-piece voting system.
Raila has been urging residents in Mombasa and other regions in the country to vote for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party aspirants in all the six positions during the next general poll.
Rajwayi, however, has opposed this move arguing that it is one of the causes of underdevelopment in most counties including Mombasa.
“The six-piece voting resulted in Mombasa being an ODM assembly, which made it inefficient,” he said as quoted by The Star.
The speaker said he is in ODM to stay but does not support Raila’s sentiments as far as voting is concerned.
Rajwayi, however, said he has not decided which candidate he'll support in the Mombasa gubernatorial race.
“I am not endorsing anyone. Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar is a personal friend, Nyali MP Hezron Awiti is a brother and Governor Hassan Joho is equally a brother and a friend to me. Choosing one of the three now is suicidal to me,” he said.
The former Prime Minister will be banking on the support of Coast, Western, Nyanza and Eastern regions to unseat President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.
