A section of professional from Muranga county have supported Raila Odinga in opposing the water tunnel project.
In a rare show of support, the professionals from President Uhuru's backyard have thrown their weight behind Odinga terming the project as a move that will deplete the county of her natural resources and kill her rivers.
The professionals were quick to fault Athi Water and Services Board for contracting a Chinese company on the project before conducting an environmental impact assessment.
"We pointed out the tunnel will deplete water from rivers Irati, Gikigie and Maragua, whose water will be tapped in the first phase before it is extended to tap water from river South Mathioya, Hembe, Githugi and North Mathioya in the second phase.” Sammy Ndumbi said.
In October, opposition leader Raila Odinga locked horns with the government when he opposed the project vehemently.
