Opposition leader Raila Odinga has recognized female governors and welcomed them to heading the devolved government affairs.
For the first time since Kenya embraced county governments, the country has got three female governors on the throne.
During the 2013 election when governors were first elected to office, Kenyans voted for male governors in the 47 counties making gubernatorial position look like a men only affair.
Speaking during the 5th Devolution Conference in Kakamega County on Thursday, Raila said the country needs more of the female governors despite having the three to realize the third gender rule
The three female governors include Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Bomet's Joyce Laboso.
Addressing leaders, the opposition leader added that devolution is the best thing the country has achieved so far with some counties like Makueni having processing plants after devolution.
Raila asked governors to manage public resources and avoid corruption in the counties.
“The good news is that fighting corruption and shielding devolution are no longer matters of partisan debate. The MoU of the now famous handshake of March 9 prioritizes making counties deliver to the people. It also identifies corruption as a threat to the country. The President and I have agreed that we must fight corruption from a wide and common front,” Raila said.
