[Photo/File]NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga has denied making claims that may spike incitement Laikipia county, after reports from an interview he had with The Times of London quoted him on the subject of big ranches in the county which are owned by foreigners who are never around.“These ranches are too big and the people don’t even live there; they live in Europe and only come once in a while. There’s a need for rationalisation to ensure that there’s more productive use of that land," said Raila in the Times interview. However, through NASA spokeswoman Cathleen Openda, the story is fake and he defended the former Prime Minister saying he understands how emotive the land issue is in Kenya and could not have uttered such sentiments.“This is fake. Raila has not and cannot make those kind of remarks. He is responsible enough to know that land issues are sensitive and those reports can only be termed as fake news,” Openda said.Just before the response from Odinga's offfice, Laikipia county commissioner Onesmus Musyoki and gubernatorial aspirant Nderitu Muriithi had already condemned the former Prime Minister saying his sentiments were a recipe for chaos.“The other day Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago told Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri to take his Mungiki back to Laikipia. Those are wrong utterances spewed by a leader,” Musyoki said.
