Opposition leader Raila Odinga returns to Coast region to campaign as he seeks to ensure he bags the expansive region’s votes on August 8.
Political analysts classify Coast among zones with potential to determine who ascends to State House in the next 16 days to come.President Uhuru Kenyatta wound up his campaigns in Coast on Wednesday in Mombasa and Taita Taveta Counties after dishing out goodies to residents of Kwale, Lamu, Tana River and Kilifi while marshalling support for the Jubilee Party ahead of the poll.The President has been on a charm offensive luring leaders from the region whose economy majorly thrives on tourism to join his party and “develop the country together”.Raila will kick off his campaigns in Lamu before flying alongside his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka and Nasa co-principal Musalia Mudavadi to Tana River.Lamu County has 69,776 registered voters while Tana River has 118,327.In 2013, Raila beat Uhuru in the two counties when he received 39,666 votes in Tana River against Uhuru’s 22,419 while in Lamu, the opposition chief garnered 22,962 against Uhuru’s 17,677.Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho will be in Raila and Kalonzo’s company.
