National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga has said that President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered for the arrest of Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama.

The politician was arrested for allegedly making inciting remarks during a NASA rally leading to his arrest. Raila, a former prime minister, said that Uhuru directed Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet, over the remarks.  Raila also visited Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria at Pangani Police Station who had also been arrested over hate speech pending investigations into the matter.

“Uhuru Kenyatta has given instructions. But I would like Uhuru Kenyatta to play by the rules. You are a presidential candidate, I’m a presidential candidate, let us face the people. Do not intimidate my supporters to cripple my campaign,” Raila noted, as quoted by Standard.

Raila also asked Uhuru and his team not to frustrate the opposition ahead of the rerun. Muthama was arrested in his Tala home, Kangundo while Kuria was arrested at the CBD in Nairobi. The arrest of the two leaders comes at a time when President Uhuru and Raila have embarked on their campaigns across the nation ahead of the fresh polls.
