ODM party leader Raila Odinga has challenged Kenyans to uphold traditional ways of living.
Raila said a society without traditions is a society doomed to lose focus.
He was speaking in Homa Bay on Tuesday at an event hosted by the Luo Council of Elders.
The meeting had been convened to discuss plans for the preservation and promotion of progressive cultural practices in the modern day era.
"This celebration of culture is important as a focal point for unity in diversity," he said.
"I urge communities to embrace their various counterparts in our collective efforts towards nationhood."
The meeting comes at a time traditions in Kenya are facing an uphill test to remain relevant amid threats from Western ways of living.
The meeting was also attended by Governors Josephat Nanok (Turkana) and Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay) as well as Luo Council of Elders Chairman Willis Otondi.
