Opposition Chief Raila Odinga has told off critiques claiming he does not command support in Kiambu and other counties constituting Central Kenya.
Raila spoke hours after his rally in Thika town in Kiambu was halted after rowdy youth pelted stones at his convoy on Thursday.
“We in NASA have a good narrative to tell the people of Kenya across our 47 counties and we are excited at every opportunity to share our message that this election is about changing the direction of this country,” Raila said.
“We thank the people of Kiambu for coming out to listen to our great ideas on how to change our current circumstances. Peaceful protests and the occasional heckling is part of freedom of speech and is protected by the Constitution.”
Raila was in Kiambu County campaigning on when a group of youth threw stones at his convoy compelling the former prime minister to halt a rally he was to address in the town that is Kiambu County’s headquarters.
The incident happened a day after NASA principals Raila, Musalia Mudavadi and Isaac Ruto prematurely ended their visit to Baringo County when youth chanting pro-Jubilee slogans burnt opposition burners and shouted down the leaders.
Raila, however, blamed politician for the mayhem.
“The groups of young people who attacked our convoy with stones and other weapons were obviously organised,” he said.
“While the campaign season has seen incidents of heckling, this is the first time such violence has been witnessed.”
