Cord leader Raila Odinga has vowed that street protests to push for the disbandment of the IEBC will continue across the country every Monday.
Through his Facebook page, Raila said that IEBC is a tainted body and cannot be trusted to conduct an election come 2017.
“We emphasise that the protests will be every Monday until the commissioners tainted with chicken gate corruption allegations and incompetence step aside," he said.
Despite Cord leaders and supporters being teargassed by police during the Monday protests, Raila termed the exercise peaceful.
"Cord held a peaceful assembly and picketing at IEBC offices across the country," said Raila.
“The main protest was at Anniversary Towers where thousands assembled to demand for the disbandment and reconstitution of the IEBC to allow for free and fair elections in 2017," added Raila.
Last week while touring Meru, Raila dismissed calls by President Kenyatta to shun street protests and seek constitutional means is pushing for removal of IEBC commissioners in office. President Kenyatta had also warned Kenyans against engaging in the street protests saying that they are endangering their lives.
Raila on his part said that street protests are the right of assembly as written in the constitution.
