President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday thanked the Gusii community, saying the votes Jubilee got in the August 8 polls is proof that the region is no longer an opposition stronghold.
The president, accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto, pointed out that the Gusii community has clearly shown that they are ready to join hands with other Kenyans in building the country under the Jubilee Administration.
Addressing a campaign rally at Ekeronyo in Nyamira County on Thursday, President Kenyatta asked Kenyans to shun the divisive and tribal politics championed by the opposition.
“Kenyans need to join hands and work together to build the country. We cannot afford to be divided along tribal lines,” President Kenyatta said.
The president lambasted opposition leader Raila Odinga for trying to sabotage the October 26 election with unrealistic demands, saying that is a sign that the opposition was scared of fresh polls.
“When the Supreme Court nullified the Presidential elections and ordered for fresh polls within 60 days, our opponents thought we would refuse and thereby get opportunity to get into government through the back door but we have proved them wrong,” President Kenyatta said.
