Speaking during the funeral service of fallen multiparty democracy icon Kenneth Matiba at the Ihura Stadium in Muranga County on Thursday, the Head of State announced that his government is putting in place a scheme that will see national heroes acknowledged.

The initiative, he said, will see all the men and women who have not only suffered but contributed to the nation's well being noted and rewarded.

''My government is in the process of rolling out a plan that will enable us to reward the men and women to whom we owe our current national well being and stability. There is a need for us to remember those who have sacrificed to see our nation prosper,'' said Kenyatta.

Odinga, who participated in some of the biggest national transformations, including campaigns against retired President Daniel Moi's Nyayo regime that saw him detained alongside Matiba in 1990 at the Kamiti Maximum Prison is likely to be considered.

The opposition chief has been instrumental in the fight for democracy in the country.

Also present during the event was the National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Deputy President William Ruto and a host of leaders and state officials, all of whom hailed the departed icon for his contribution, calling upon the new political generation to emulate him.
