Veteran politician and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has had a long stint in the country's political scene. A once member of parliament, Raila has had a shot at the presidency four times without success.
However, the opposition chief has not yet introduced his political heir. As age catches up with him, he should consider picking a politician who he will groom and guide for future national political competition.
Raila can consider grooming the various politicians within his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) who are currently serving at different political levels in different parts of the country.
Baba, as he is popularly known, can settle on the likes of National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi, Suna East Mp Junet Mohamed, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Rarieda Mp Otiende Amollo or even Homa Bay Women Rep Gladys Wanga.
All these leaders, together with others in the party, have been very vocal and have been in the forefront championing for Raila and his political agenda for the country.
Ultimately, Raila can settle on any of the politicians within the National Super Alliance (NASA) who he believes has what it takes to successfully challenge for the presidency as well as advancing his political agenda.
Raila can impact his choice with a wide range of political knowledge on how he or she can survive in the political scene of the country. This way, he can have his presidential ambition realized through his political student.
The 2022 general elections are not far away and he should make his decision as early as now and embark on popularizing his heir to Kenyans.
Handing over political mantle will also do away with perception from a quarter of Kenyans who believe he (Raila) is politically selfish and that is why he has run for presidency four times
