President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a scathing attack on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga after he claimed that he was at the center of the 2002/08 post-election violence that gripped the country.

The President was speaking in Gusii land on Tuesday while addressing Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the region who are seeking compensation.

"Raila was at the center of the 2007 chaos where Kenyans fought each other but he blamed it on my Deputy William Ruto," said the president.

"He is the one who started the fire," he added.

Grievances by Gusii land IDPs dominated the president's two-day visit in the area.

He, however, said the IDPs will be compensated by next month.
