Opposition leader Raila Odinga has said that threats by police officers that they will block Nasa supporters from accessing Uhuru Park tomorrow during his swearing in ceremony will be dealt with accordingly.
Speaking to journalists in Nairobi, Mr Odinga said that the matter was being handled by a committee which is planning in the ceremony.
“The committee dealing with my swearing in ceremony will deal with the police threats. Today am here to follow the case challenging Embakasi East MP Babu Owino’s win,” he said.
On Sunday Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome issued a statement outlawing any gatherings at Uhuru Park tomorrow.
“No group will be allowed to use Uhuru Park, the place will remain closed and any scheduled activities that were to take place there should be cancelled, ” he said.
He cited different groups that had booked the venue and said that they are forced to take the action in order to avert any violent confrontation.
NASA CEO Norman Magaya has remained adamant that the Coalition has no intention of changing the venue whatsoever and told off Nairobi Police boss boss not “to attempt to come to Uhuru Park to cause chaos.”
