Akamba Clans Governing Council of Elders have dealt NASA Presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga a major blow after they objected Senator Muthama Johnson’s request to back Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero’s re-election.

The elders have instead endorsed Senator Mike Sonko of Jubilee to take over power from Kidero. The new twist of events in the region is likely to cost the alliance the governorship seat when that time comes.

In an event presided over by the council, the elders said that Sonko is the perfect person to take over leadership of the county after the August general elections.

The ceremony went on at his Mua Hills home in Machakos.

In his speech, Sono regretted the demise of his father, Kioko Kivanguli, saying that he wished he could have been around to see him coronate into an elder. He also accepted the endorsement from the elders.

"I accept your blessings and even if I am elected as the governor of Nairobi County I will not forget where I came from,” Mr Sonko said.

Led by Mr Boniface Kilonzo the elders hailed the senator’s courage and statesmanship including the Sonko Rescue team. On his part, Sonko’s running mate, Polycarp Igathe promised that they will transform the region if elected.

"We are ready to serve the people. Mr Mbuvi is a uniting factor as he was voted for by all the tribes in Kenya during the nominations," said Mr Igathe.
