Is it a tale of enough is enough?
The much awaited date of December 12 was fast approaching, millions of NASA supporters were keen on the next direction of their camp’s leader Raila Odinga. Probably after his swearing in, they would be convinced Canaan was at hand. Baba had spoken, firmly telling critics that all that mattered was his oath of office.
He perfectly said he was not a coward few days after Uhuru Kenyatta's victory was upheld by the Supreme Court last month. But, the run got twisted too soon.
Worthwhile, the hopes sustained after a heartless politicking season were dashed-in a much unexpected NASA press release on Sunday evening.
NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi made made a critical announcement at their Okoa Kenya offices.
He pronounced; “Following internal consultations NASA advises the NASA fraternity that the swearing in of Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka has been postponed.”
Flanked by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, the ANC leader however said the Opposition will announce a new date for the swearing-in and launch of the People’s Assembly later.
The announcement has fatigued supporters of Raila Odinga and the NASA side, basing on the responses published online by furious netizens.
On Twitter, users expressed their disappointment with the decision, some questioning the strategic nature of the Opposition leadership.
Replying to @CoalitionNASAKe, one @sirmartoh said; “As a staunch NRM follower I'm deeply disappointed. This ain't the time to take your foot out of the gas pedal. Pressure meets pressure. Bowing to pressure has deflated the strong will of the people. Unless you are merely managing people's expectations and disappointments.”
Another user @AkadimaMongare said; “This is the worst decision ever made by NASA strategists. It's such a sad day. This was the right time to settle this once and for all. Let’s now focus on 2022. It is over.”
Some poured out their anger, vowing to get back to consuming and using products and services listed in the NASA boycott list.
“Nkt bure kabisa narudisha line ya saf nikijiburudisha na maziwa ya brookside na chapati imepikwa na mafuta ya bidco nitoe stress @RailaOdinga you are a coward go home and rest,” a frustrated @YasMarjan said.
For others yet, they said the Opposition was in a business game that did not call for their attention as supporters.
“Enough is enough let me just suffer in this illegitimate government than being hopeful where there is no light at the end of the tunnel! Now I agree with some of my friends that it was just business,” @Odhiambo_Osoro protested.
Even with the harsh rebuttal the NASA decision received, the coalition maintained that it had simply made a postponement and not a cancellation.
“Postponed not cancelled,” NASA wrote on its Twitter page on Sunday night.
