On Wednesday, while campaigning in Wote, Makueni county President Uhuru Kenyatta lashed out on local chiefs over their cosy relationship with the opposition.

The Head of State utterances in Wote were, however, seen by political pundits and a section of Kenyans as threats to the local administrators. This led to a response from NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Odinga, termed Uhuru's utterances as intimidation because public servants have their own choices to make when it comes choosing their preferred leader.

"These threats to chiefs and public servants are further evidence that the President can no longer differentiate his private and public persona," he said in a statement on Thursday.

"As the President was threatening chiefs, CS's and other senior public servants have been mobilised to campaign for Jubilee," he added.

Odinga also said the sentiments from Uhuru are a clear indicator, the president is keen to take Kenya back to the dark Nyayo era.

"This is in a manner last seen during the KANU single party era," he said.
