"President Uhuru should stop begging his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni over Migingo Island, and lay full claims to the land and property of Kenyans," Raila said in Bondo where he held a roadside rally.

"Uhuru is sitting pretty laughing with Museveni while the Uganda People's Defense Force (UPDF) army is terrorising innocent Kenyans on the island. Migingo is Kenyan territory from colonial times and we cannot cede it," he said.

Raila challenged Uhuru to be as firm as former president Daniel Arap Moi and former Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere who sent away former Ugandan President Idi Amin after he tried to encroach on Kenyan and Tanganyika lands respectively.

He stated that Uhuru should be able to emulate what his predecessors did and protect the sovereignty of Kenya and restore confidence in the people.

The Island has been in the news since Ugandan forces attacked Kenyans living there, arrested some businessmen and fisher folk before blocking two Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC) voter registration clerks from listing Kenyans on the island as voters. The clerks were detained before being released after intervention of Kenyan authorities.
