Cord will give ruling Jubilee coalition an ‘early Christmas’ should it front former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka or Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula as presidential flag bearer, reckons Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka.
The Cord coalition is facing internal wrangles as Wiper and Ford Kenya parties seek to review the 2013 MoU in which ODM had pledged to support wiper in 2017 if its leader Raila Odinga won 2013 polls.
But Onyonka in an exclusive interview on Monday downplayed the duo saying they lacked ‘national outlook’ and claimed they will lose easily to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“If Cord is serious about winning 2017 elections, then the issue of Wetangula or Kalonzo being flag bearers should not arise. Either of them will give Jubilee an early Christmas,” Onyonka said.
“They lack a national outlook and President Uhuru will beat them easily. They do not have a solid political base and Cord should be ready for an imminent defeat if they back either of the two,” added Onyonka.
Onyonka says Cord leader Raila Odinga was the only ‘suited’ to remove Jubilee from power given his nationwide support.
“I know some call me a mole but I must admit that Raila is a force to reckon with because of his acceptance nationwide. He is the only Cord leader who can dethrone President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto from power,” he said.
Onyonka, a second term MP has been a chief critic of Cord despite being elected on an ODM ticket and was de-whipped from key house committees due to his rebellious nature.
