NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga Tuesday took his campaigns to the vote-rich Kiambu County, his rival's President Uhuru Kenyatta political backyard.
Raila told the Kikuyu community that he will not discriminate against them but will defend everyone's rights once he takes the presidency from the incumbent President Kenyatta of Jubilee Party.
Reminding them his past working relationship with the retired President Mwai Kibaki, the former Prime Minister said that he has no problem working with them.
“I said Kibaki tosha in 2002. Do you really think that I did not know then that Kibaki was Kikuyu? Even when he was involved in a road accident I took over the responsibility of campaigning for him,” he said as quoted by Capital News.
The ODM leader added, "I, therefore, want to tell you today that I Raila Odinga; I am a friend to the Kikuyu community. So members of this community are at the heart of our alliance – NASA (wako ndani, ndani, ndani ya NASA),” he added.
Speaking in Nairobi before touring Kiambu, Raila assured the Kikuyus that they will be more secure and happier under his presidency.
"I will ensure that money has been allocated in the budget to improve and expand both the Githunguri Dairy as well as the coffee and tea sector. This will create more jobs for the youth, something that Jubilee has failed," he said during a press conference in Nairobi.
The former Prime Minister also vowed to fight alcoholism saying that it is not enough to destroy drinking dens as the root problem is what should be addressed.
"It's not enough to destroy the dens and leave people despondent. We must address the cause, not the symptom," he said.
