Speaking in Meru Town on Thursday, Raila told residents that Jubilee leaders have been misleading them so they can deny him votes in the coming general election.

"I wonder what I have done to be branded as the enemy of the people from this region. I am closer to you. Don't be cheated," he said.

The former Prime Minister said Jubilee administration has been using divide-and-rule tactics to keep away the Meru people from him.

"Jubilee is just using the divide and rule method to cause tension in the country. I cannot be an enemy of Meru. That is negative propaganda," he noted.

The opposition chief accused the government of aiding corruption and tribalism besides being an enemy of devolution. He told the Meru community to work with him so that he puts the country back to the right path of development that will impact on their lives.

"When I was roads minister, I brought the now Tanzania President John Magufuli to open the Meru-Maua road. I oversaw the designing of most of the roads being constructed in Meru," he observed.

He urged residents to register in large numbers and support his bid, expressing confidence that he will beat Jubilee in the August elections.

"Kenyans are tired of the current leadership and only the Opposition can offer solutions to problems facing the country," he added.
