[Photo|ODM]The National Super Alliance (NASA) has asked foreign diplomats in Kenya to keep off the country’s elections and political affairs because "they are not being helpful."NASA leader Raila Odinga said envoys are hell-bent on pushing Kenyans into an election that will not be credible and which will only throw the country into deeper political crisis. He questioned the silence of the diplomats on the resignation last week of Dr Roselyn Akombe and her revelations that the IEBC was incapable of delivering credible elections. He said the diplomats were equally silent on revelations by Dr Akombe that she had been receiving death threats prior to her resignation and the admission by the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati that he could not guarantee credible elections next week.Odinga expressed concern that diplomats were pushing for any kind of elections, credible or otherwise, just to close the chapter regardless of the consequences and warned that they had crossed the line and were now openly interfering in Kenya’s election. The NASA leader said the “irregularities” and “illegalities” that made the Supreme Court nullify the results of the presidential elections held in August had not been properly addressed despite the efforts that saw the Opposition condense them into specific irreducible minimums to ensure credible polls. The NASA leaders warned that “a small minority” that is determined to subvert Kenya's journey towards democratization would fail and instead be swept away.“There will be elections in Kenya soon but not this month (October)” Odinga said, during tour of Kisii and Nyamira counties, Monday. The swipe at diplomats marks a significant parting of ways and follows a meeting earlier Monday with sections of the diplomatic community before the NASA team headed out to Kisii. The meeting took place at Odinga’s offices at the request of the diplomats and focused on the situation in the country in the lead up to October 26 when the new Presidential election is supposed to be held in Kenya. It brought together ambassadors and high Commissioner of the US, UK, EU, Norway and Denmark who all asked NASA to participate in the Thursday presidential election. At the meeting, NASA reiterated the position that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission was not ready to conduct free, fair and credible elections.Until today, NASA has only silently voiced concern at the determination of the international community to push Kenya into an election that will not meet the standards set out by the Supreme Court.
