The ODM will on Friday hold the first ever regional delegates’ conference for Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, Busia and Trans Nzoia counties.
The event to be held at the Masinde Muliro University multipurpose hall in Kakamega town, will draw over 2,500 party delegates who will chat the way forward for the party.
According to ODM director of communications Philip Etale, they will also make a number of declarations ahead of next year’s general election.
The meeting dubbed; the Western Region ODM Delegates Convention, has been organised by party officials in the region and convened by the deputy party leader and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
Etale said in a statement on Monday, the five counties have a total of 38 constituencies and each constituency will be represented by 60 delegates.
According to Oparanya, the convention will give an opportunity to party members to give their views on the party’s preparations for the August 8th 2017 general election.
“We want our people to have a say on the choice of the flag-bearer in next year’s general election” says Mr. Oparanya. “Our region has been forgotten in terms of development. We want a leadership that will revive our dead and ailing industries and not just baseless and empty promises” added Oparanya.
The Governor said the region wants to set the pace for the country and that is why they have organized this event.
“The ODM constitution provides for regional delegates conventions and we are proud to be the first ones to have one”.
The one-day event will be graced by Raila Odinga who is expected to deliver the keynote address and outline his vision and plan for the region when he ascends to power.
