ODM leader Raila Odinga has yet again hit back at the Deputy President William Ruto over his decision to reconcile with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In recent weeks, a section of leaders allied to Ruto have accused Raila of allegedly hiding in the handshake to champion for his 2022 presidential bid.
But at Elmentaita on Tuesday during the party's NEC meeting, Raila elaborated in his speech why he chose to work with Uhuru, answering indirectly to his critics.
"The handshake was not about 2022. It was too significant an event to be reduced to a struggle for positions, promises and ambitions of individuals," he said.
He further noted: "This country has had elections before. We had presidents, PMs and Chief Secretaries before. There is nothing special about 2022."
Instead, Raila said, the handshake was about doing things differently adding that the MoU will help salvage 2022 polls to a larger extent.
To cement the secret MoU, Raila added, the ODM party will embark on a series of rallies across the country to educate Kenyans about its contents. It is widely believed that Raila may have agreed with Uhuru to push for parliamentary system of government.
