Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party will field a candidate from the Kikuyu community in Starehe Constituency during August 8 general election.
Raila Odinga, the party leader, said that is the only way the party can win the seat currently held by Jubilee's Maina Kamanda.
"Kuna maeneo mengine mpaka tuweke mkikuyu kama candidate. Tukiweka mkikuyu Starehe tunashinda. Tukiweka mluhya, mjaluo au mkamba pale tutashindwa (There are some areas we have to pick a Kikuyu as candidate. If we we pick a Kikuyu for Starehe we will win. If we pick a Luhya, Luo or Kamba we will lose)," Raila said on Tuesday.
The former Prime Minister made the remarks when he met ODM Nairobi leaders to strategise how to fend off Jubilee’s onslaught to seize control of the management of the capital city.
ODM won the Starehe seat in 2007 when they picked Bishop Margaret Wanjiru as their candidate.
The Cord leader stressed Nairobi was an important political constituency that the opposition must do everything possible to gain control of.
