Opposition leader Raila Odinga is set to tour Kisii County during the last week of August to popularize ODM in a move to tame growing influence from Jubilee coalition.
Odinga was scheduled to visit the region last week but he only made an impromptu visit before leaving for a function in Migori County.
On Friday, chairman John Mbadi confirmed the planned visit stating that the party was in the final stages of organizing the rallies.
“Kisii County is very important to the party and we have to ensure that we garner a larger percentage in all seats up for grabs. The party is strong and our leader will be here during the last week of August to popularize the opposition,” said Mbadi during a funeral he attended in Nyacheki.
He said the visit is meant to thwart the high rate at which Jubilee was 'buying' politicians from the region.
"The one week tour will enable us re-strategize on how to thwart the high rate of Jubilee buying politicians. We all want leadership from Nyanza and that can’t happen if Gusii region is not voting our party leader,” added Mbadi.
He stated that Odinga would be required to traverse the entire county where all 45 wards have been factored in the tentative schedule that will be released in a few days’ time.
“All 45 wards will have a chance to host Mr. Odinga and as party leadership, we want to urge all residents to turn up in large numbers as we go around calling for more voter registration,” he said.
