Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader Raila Odinga has told President Uhuru Kenyatta that he does not fear to be jailed for demanding credible elections.
The former Prime Minister dared the Head of State to put him behind bars over claims that he is inciting Kenyans ahead of polls set for August 8, 2017.
Speaking at Maili Tatu in Igembe Central, Meru County on Thursday, Raila said he will not be cowed by threats from Jubilee leaders.
“I have been in prison for nine years while Uhuru was born and raised in State House. He cannot threaten me with jail term,” said Raila.
The opposition leader was responding to remarks made by the President on Wednesday when he warned that anyone who incites Kenyans will be dealt with in accordance with law.
“Every time you open your mouth you issue crude insults and illogical allegations. Stop talking of violence all the time and let us compete on policies and leave Kenyans to make their choices,” said President Kenyatta, addressing Raila.
The Cord leader has maintained that the Opposition will not accept rigged election, warning of 'serious consequences' if the government interferes with the election process.
On Tuesday, Raila alleged that National Intelligence Service (NIS) is being used by the government to register foreigners in the ongoing mass voter registration to back Jubilee in August polls.
