ODM leader Raila Odinga is set to consolidate his support in Gusii region in his three-day visit to the counties of Kisii and Nyamira.

Mr Odinga was overwhelmingly supported in the region in 2013 polls and has recently seen Jubilee led by Deputy President William Ruto make inroads in the region by courting a number of elected members of national assembly.

Nyamira County ODM vice chair Kaka Julius on Thursday confirmed the tour and said the former prime minister will hold talks with Nyamira leaders on February 19 before holding major rallies in Rigoma and Ikonge areas.

“Plans are in place and the organising committee is in the final stages to welcome our party leader. This will be his first time to Nyamira since 2013 and we are happy to have him around. He will hold talks with all leaders elected on CORD affiliates before holding joint rallies with them at Rigoma and Ikonge,” said.

Mr Kaka also confirmed the theme of the rallies will be mobilising more people from the region to register as voters before Mr Odinga leaves on 20th for Kisii County where he will spend another two days.

“The main reason for the tour is to reconcile all elected leaders from our county who were sponsored by CORD parties and calling for residents to register as voters. We have only 300,000 registered voters from a possible 600,000. We will pass out the message before he leaves for Kisii County,” he added.

Mr Kaka hinted that the party will grace the occasion to woo senior politicians from Jubilee government to join CORD though he did not disclose names of persons targeted.
