Reliable sources have revealed that the technical committee of the National Super Alliance (NASA) is recommending Raila Odinga as the coalition's flag bearer to face President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August polls.

The committee which is different from the National Coordinating Committee(the political wing) consist of top academics, Economist David Ndii, UoN professor Adams Oloo, Kabarak University law professor Elisha Ongoya, Ex- Mumias Sugar Chairman Dan Ameyo, and former member of the defunct Constitutional of Kenya Review Commission Abubakar Zein. The committee has warned that leaving out Odinga for the top seat will mean an end to NASA and by extension, a Jubilee victory since the ODM leader supporters will be outraged leading to the conversion of NASA strongholds into battlegrounds or swing counties. The recommendations have reportedly been presented to the National Coordinating Committee headed by Siaya Senator James Orengo and his Machakos counterpart Johnstone Muthama for more deliberations. However, the technocrats recommendations may not go down well with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who has repeatedly spoken through his loyal lieutenants that Raila must respect the 2013 MoU which stated that the former Prime Minister will support a Kalonzo presidency in 2017.An infamous motto to NASA supporters has even been coined by a section of Wiper politicians 'No Kalonzo No NASA'.Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. As the four principals are staging the first NASA rally in Nairobi at Masinde grounds in Mathare area on Friday, this disputes may threaten NASA's unity hence it will be a big day that decides the destiny of the coalition.Political pundit Kazungu Katana, however, disagrees that without a Raila-led NASA the coalition will die."In my understanding, the presidential candidate in the Coast region is Raila Odinga but if he steps down for another, I can assure you the greatest majority will vote for the candidate he picks. Even if there will be protests," he told the Star.Pro-Kalonzo supporters have also insisted that the Wiper Party leader is the best compromise candidate because of Raila-Phobia in Central Kenya making it turf for NASA to have a good share of votes in Jubilee strongholds. The latest Infotrak polls envisaged that Raila enjoys the highest percent of support from NASA followers at 68.3 percent compared to Kalonzo's 13.1 percent, Musalia's 12.3 and Wetangula's 2.2.Must Raila be NASA's flagbearer to beat Uhuru?
