Lawyer and self declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna has maintained that both President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto must be removed from office on allegations that they did not fairly beat Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka in August 2017 presidential election.
However, Uhuru and Ruto were vindicated when the Supreme Court upheld their October 2017 victory and despite demonstrations, economic sanctions and hard talk from the opposition, the two leaders are still in power.
The outcome of the Supreme Court ruling led to formation of NRM and the controversial swearing in of Raila Odinga on January 30 and Miguna has promised to pick up from where he left before his deportation to Canada a couple of weeks ago.
The lawyer may find it hard in progressing with his political discourse considering Raila has already settled issues with Uhuru and are now focused on unifying and developing the country. This only means that Miguna will lack the great support from Raila and his supporters.
The lawyer further risks failing in his continued economic sanctions against numerous products in the country. With many opposition supporters always heeding to what Raila says, any of Miguna's future boycott call is bound to fail and as Raila is now focused on the progressive growth of the country.
At the moment, National Super Alliance (NASA) is facing a back and forth in its leadership with the other principals disagreeing with Raila's decision to meet Uhuru without involving them. This only means the coalition is not in one accord and Miguna will find it hard to advance his agenda in a hostile political environment.
This will only be worsened if ODM leave NASA as they boast of a majority both in leaders and supporters. If in case it happens, the scope of NRM's activities will be constricted hence jeopardizing Miguna's planned activities.
