Cord principal Raila Odinga has accused the Jubilee administration of shielding perpetrators of corruption.
In a statement to newsrooms on Monday, Raila accused the government of manipulating agencies tasked with fighting graft.
He alleged government officials have failed in taming the vice, as they themselves are suspects in numerous corruption scandals in the country.
“We have seen very clear actions to manipulate these investigative and prosecutorial agencies to bend to the whims of the government in the war on graft,” read the statement in part.
He cited the NYS scandal, saying “it is a clear demonstration of the manipulation and the game of favorites Jubilee is playing with corruption while accusing the opposition of doing nothing.”
He further faulted the government over failure to take action against former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru and aides and associates of Deputy President William Ruto who have been linked to the scam.
“The protection Waiguru is enjoying clearly demonstrates that the NYS scam is President Kenyatta’s scam and its chief architect Anne Waiguru is his protectorate,” said Raila.
He questioned why the president declared Waiguru innocent even before any investigations were done.
“Today Waiguru remains protected from prosecution despite the many calls from even the DP for her to be charged. Everyone at the Ministry of Devolution and the National Youth Service whose name has ever been mentioned in the scandal has been charged, all expect Waiguru,” he said.
“The only logical explanation for this selective prosecution is that Ms Waiguru is a 'Kenyatta protectorate' whom the president is keen to retain even at the expense of coalition partners URP,” he added.
He challenged the Jubilee administration to take its role of fighting all vices crippling that nation, including corruption seriously.
