President Uhuru Kenyatta and his opposition rival Raila Odinga skipped Tuesday pre-nominations meeting with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chief.

Among the 18 candidates who had declared there bid sixteen of the came but only Raila and Uhuru were missing raising questions among the aspirants.

It was later established that the two leaders sent representatives for the meeting.

However, presidential candidate Abduba Dida contested the decision to send representatives saying candidates must appear in person.

"It is presidential candidates who should be here, not representatives," he said.

"I called the office maybe the person was not informed. If an independent candidate sent a representative what would happen?," he added.

In a quick response IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said the law allows candidates to send representatives if they cant make it to the meeting.

"It is allowed in the law. If the candidates are engaged, we have no problem with representatives," said Chebukati.

The meeting clarified legal and operational requirements for nomination of candidates as well as qualifications for each elective position.
