Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has been challenged to embrace the proposal given by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday meant to end intrigues surrounding electoral body IEBC.
Mr Odinga has been leading demonstrations calling for dialogue over the removal of IEBC prompting the president to convene a press conference and agreeing to constitute a joint team of the Senate and National Assembly committees to address the impasse.
Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tongi challenged Odinga to ‘minimise’ demand and allow the president’s directive.
“I think the president has done what opposition wanted. I want to challenge Mr Odinga to embrace the route taken by the President by accepting dialogue done within the confines of Parliament’s standing orders,” he said.
“All we want is peace and there is no more room to start waging new demands. We want the country to move ahead so it’s imperative for him to allow people who he had appointed to engage those from our side without violating the constitution and parliamentary standing orders,” he added.
Tongi also challenged the Cord leader to immediately call off the demonstrations which its leadership had vowed to propel despite the government's ban.
“It’s now important for Odinga to make a formal statement that will call for suspensions of demonstrations as we deliberate on the matter at hand. The country should move on and it’s our duty as politicians to ensure that happens,” he said.
