Kiambu County Senator Kimani Wamatangi has blasted Church leaders over their calls for the expansion of executive.

On Tuesday, National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) Secretary General Rev Canon Peter Karanja suggested the creation of posts of prime minister and two deputies.

"The prime minister and deputy prime ministers will sit in the cabinet and may answer questions in Parliament and these positions can be ascribed other names," Karanja said, arguing that the positions would bring a sense of inclusivity and a feeling that some people are left out.

But speaking during a morning show at Kameme FM, Wamatangi dismissed the calls terming NCCK an extension of opposition's NASA coalition.

"What the church leaders are telling us is what Raila and his NASA brigade had been telling us; the formation of 'nusu-mkate' government," he said.

The Senator warned the clergy against supporting the Opposition in a plot to get power through the back door.

"They should not be used by Raila to help him be in government through unconstitutional means. The power is only given to the people through the ballot," Wamatangi added.
