Raila will be seeking support ahead of the 2017 presidential elections.

He is expected to open an ODM party office at Kathwana before drumming up support for the Cord coalition in the county.

According to the Nation, Tharaka-Nithi ODM branch chairman Martin Mugambi disclosed that Raila will also meet party delegates during the visit.

"He will (also) talk on how some semi-arid regions like Tharaka could improve farming if the government provides water for irrigation and improves transport systems," he added.

He also added that the county security team had been informed of the meeting and that they have assured enough security.

“We expect the meeting to be very peaceful,” he said.
