National Super Alliance (NASA) chief principal Raila Odinga now wants governors and county assemblies affiliated to the alliance to defend devolution.

Speaking after a closed door  meeting  with  Kisumu Governor Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyongo alongside  other Kisumu County ceaders in Kisumu on Monday, Odinga urged county assemblies to work closely with the counties executive wings in a bid to strengthen devolution.

He said devolution is facing implementation challenges due to frustration from the national government.

“Devolution is an idea whose time has come in our country. Devolution can work, and the people of Kenya must defend devolution,” he said.

On his part, Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o insisted that his meeting with Raila Odinga majorly focused on devolution and how best to make it work for the people of Kisumu, and Kenya at large.

“He came to pay a courtesy call to the county government of Kisumu. He has given us some words of wisdom on how to sail through the task of providing services to the people and ensuring that devolution works,” he said.

Devolution is now in its second term of implementation, the first term being the duration that followed the 2013 general elections.
