Raila while supporting the recommendations made by the Joint Select Committee on IEBC said that it is a new dawn for the electoral commission.

He said that any engagement in regards to selection and appointment of the commissioners must involve all the stakeholders.

Raila said that the opposition and Kenyans quest for a transparent and fair IEBC was slowly paying off.

“The work we started a few months ago is now paying off and every stakeholder has to be involved as the process of appointing new commissioners begins,” he said on Wednesday after being briefed on the recommendations made by the Joint Select committee co-chaired by Siaya senator James Orengo and his Meru counterpart Kiraitu Murungi.

On Tuesday the Joint Committee proposed that the current IEBC commissioners vacate office by the end of next month and that the process of selecting new commissioners to begin immediately.

The Joint committee is expected to present its report for debate in Parliament today.
