Raila said the push by Nandi leaders led by Governor Stephen Sang for border changes was creating unnecessary tension between communities that have lived harmoniously in the past.

Sang and his team have been agitating for the return of 'lost land' to Kisumu in the colonial era during the construction of the Uganda Railway by the British.

They claim the colonialists evicted Nandi from the area because of their militant opposition to the railway, insisting that Kisumu must surrender back the large swathes of land.

Among the contested areas include Chemilil, Kibigori, Kibos, Miwani, Kopere, Fort Tenan and Muhoroni towns which are located in Kisumu East and Muhoroni constituencies.

Speaking on Saturday during a function at Bar Opuk Primary School, Raila challenged Sang to petition the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over the matter and noted the issue can be discussed in a more civilised manner without invoking political emotions.

"It is clear that administrative boundaries were drawn in 1963, but we should not resort to political means to sort out problems," the former Prime Minister said.
