ODM party leader Raila Odinga has sought the votes of women and promised that the National Super Alliance (Nasa) government will fight to give them their rights.
Addressing ODM female aspirants at the Multimedia University in Nairobi, Odinga said that women groups have been unable to compete fairly with their male counterparts due to failure by the Jubilee government to uphold the constitutional two-thirds gender rule.
“After we win the election in August, we will revisit that provision on two-thirds gender rule,” said Odinga.
"The issue of Jubilee saying there are more women than men and they can vote for one of their own is foolhardy,” he added.
Odinga also said there were other factors that disadvantaged women seeking positions in the public domain including historical, cultural and ethnic biases that his administration would look into once in power.
“Women are at the centre of our agenda for inclusion as opposed to exclusion,” Odinga said.
He added: “Society can’t grow if more than 50 per cent of its population are neglected.”
