Speaking through his Facebook page, Miguna said that the ODM leader did injustice to the opposition through the said handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Miguna said that the perceived peace that arose after the 'handcheque' was a selfish individualistic move and a historical lie meant to fool Kenyans into relenting on their quest for change.

"Correcting a histotical lie: Nelson Mandela "shook hands" with de Klerk to mark the DEFEAT of the Apartheid troops by Umkhonto weSizwe and Cuban forces at Cuito Cuanavale. It wasn't a private or secret deal. Mandela represented the ANC; not his personal interests. de Klerk represented the racist Nationalist Party; not his individual private interests," he said.

"The Mandela-de Klerk handshake SYMBOLISED the end of Apartheid. Has the "HANDCHEQUE" kill(ed) Jubilee Party tyranny? No! It found it weaker and fortified it. Jubilee Party has become more ruthless and arrogant. The progressive forces have been divided and weakened," Miguna noted.

In the last general election, Kibera people were solidly behind the then NASA flagbearer Raila Odinga.

Although the area was an opposition stronghold, Miguna garnered fewer votes as the area's favourite was former governor Evans Kidero who eventually came second to Sonko.
