NASA principal Raila Odinga has warned public servants engaging in politics that he will sack them after ousting President Uhuru Kenyatta from office. The most affected are Cabinet secretaries who have been seen in political rallies and other functions campaigning for Uhuru Kenyatta. Speaking during the direct nomination certificate handover and nomination clearance at the Bomas of Kenya, Odinga lashed at State House for supporting this act that violets the constitution."When State House says it is normal for State officers to campaign then something is wrong,” Raila complained. An act barring them from politics states, “A public officer who contravenes subsection (1) commits an offense and is liable on conviction, to a fine not exceeding Sh1 million or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years, or to both.”However, State House defended the victims and said the campaigns are part of their accountability test."They have to account for the progress of Uhuru's administration since taking office and they have to account for the confidence invested in them by the Kenyan people. At the right time they must also be asked to account for how they invested the money in terms of projects undertaken,” said State House spokesperson Esipisu.
