Despite his popularity across the country, Raila Odinga laments that 'ethnic chauvinists' from Central Kenya have always spearheaded propaganda about him and not the Kikuyu community.l
In an interview with the Al Jazeera, Raila exonerated the Mt. Kenya community adding that they should not be blamed for his poor performance from the region in all his attempts to be president.
And the 73-year-old veteran politician instead says a cartel of businessmen have perfected on a propaganda that he will not take care of their interests if he wins presidency.
"It is not that Kikuyus don't vote for me because I am a Luo but because of a propaganda by ethnic chauvinists that I will not cater for their interests.
"I work with Kikuyus. My legal adviser is a Kikuyu. I have a lot of Kikuyus who work with me. I am only being fought by ethnic chauvinists," he said.
Records from IEBC shows that in his 1997, 2007, 2013 and 2017 outing, Raila has generally scored badly in Central Kenya as opposed to other regions.
While Raila maintains that he is not interested with 2022 polls, he has however been meeting with leaders from the populous region following his handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
