[ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi. He is confident Raila will win the August poll, with only a few weeks to go.] (zipo.co.ke)Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has assured opposition supporters of a National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential win in the August 8 general election.
Mudavadi said President Uhuru Kenyatta will lose the August poll over his laxity to fight rampant corruption in government and apparent disinterest in protecting Kenyans from the high cost of living.
Kenyans are presently grappling with a high cost of living occasioned by a domestic market maize shortage which pushed maize flour prices to a record Sh153 at the end of April.
“Raila is at a better position to transform this country. He has been tested and exhibits qualities of a leader who can unite Kenyans and change their lives for the better,” Mudavadi said in Rarieda, Siaya County during the burial of Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro’s mother on Saturday.
Raila was on April 27, unveiled as the NASA coalition’s presidential flag bearer. He will take on President Uhuru Kenyatta during the August poll in a contest political analysts say will be too close.
“We want a one-off not a run-off. Our target is to get at least 25 percent of votes in not less than 24 counties. Your responsibility in this is to come out in large numbers and cast your votes and leave the rest to us,” he added.
Mudavadi contested the 2013 presidential election but managed to clinch a distant third position with less than 500,000 votes.
There were claims he was enticed by Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto to vie so as to divide Raila’s votes in the former Western province, a densely populated and vote-rich region.
