Tharaka-Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has vowed to conduct aggressive campaigns to ensure President Uhuru Kenyatta retains power in the repeat election slated for October 17.

Speaking on Friday, Njuki said he will team up with elected leaders and those who lost last month poll to drum up support for the re-election of the Jubilee Party candidate.

"In political campaigns, it is not just about the number of voters, it is more important to ensure high voter turnout in order to ensure a win," the governor said.

Njuki observed that the Opposition candidate Raila Odinga received a good number of votes from his county and promised to fight his influence in the region perceived as a Jubilee zone.

"I was surprised that Raila got more 10,000 votes in Tharaka-Nithi. With the kind of campaigns we will conduct, I can promise he will garner less than ten," he stated.

The county boss was speaking at Sagana State Lodge after a strategy meeting that brought together Mt Kenya region leaders.

The meeting was graced by Jubilee party leader President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The leaders agreed to organise themselves within counties in committees of 10 members to mobolise voters ahead of the poll.
