National Super Alliance (NASA) strategist Dr David Ndii has criticised the move by the government to have all learners registered using their birth certificates without putting necessary measures to soften the process.
The Economist said it is an embarrassment as parents nationwide are forced to queue for long hours in search of the critical document yet the government through the Ministry of Education can send its officers to collect details and avail the birth certificate at the comfort of the schools.
In a statement he has posted on his twitter account, Ndii said that the move shows the dictatorship aspect of the government aimed at traumatizing citizens.
"This is a dictatorship mentality. The civilized way is to send officials to Early Childhood Development Education Centres and schools to collect data of unregistered children and deliver birth certificates," he said.
The deadline for submission of the document in schools for registration by the Education Ministry was slated on Tuesday this week but the PS Belio Kipsang extended it up to the end of the month since many parents were yet to acquire it.
Kenya Secondary School Heads Association Chairperson Kahi Indimuli on Monday urged the government give the School heads and parents ample time so that the registration exercise on the education portal can go on smoothly.
Kipsang had ordered all school heads to ensure they register the children using their respective birth certificates with the Ministry so that each of them gets a unique number which will be used in sitting for national exams and tracking the student academic progress.
