Opposition leader Raila Odinga left participants in the national prayer breakfast in stitches after he was called to make a remark.
Raila said it was a surprise that he had been called to make an address as he had not expected it.
He however associated the development to the God's doing.
"The Holy Book tells us that our God does things in mysterious ways," Raila said amid laughter from the participants.
The charismatic leader hailed the efforts President Uhuru Kenyatta has taken to unite the country and also the fight against corruption.
"I want to assure you that we are together in this," Raila said.
Raila compared his handshake with Uhuru to that of South African icon Nelson Mandela and Frederik Willem de Klerk, South Africa's last head of state from the era of white-minority rule.
Uhuru poked fun at the comparison.
"My brother compared our handshake to that of Mandela and de Klerk, I hope he was referring to me as the Mandela and him as de Klerk," Uhuru said in a light note.
