Mpuri Aburi says President Uhuru Kenyatta has to do more in Meru region to get assured of the county’s support in August elections.

His statement comes barely a week after opposition leader Raila Odinga toured the region, which is perceived to be Jubilee’s strongholds and attracted masses.

But Aburi, who was speaking on Friday at his Tigania East constituency, said the president should visit the county and face electorates to avoid a loss to opposition.

“I am working so hard to ensure the president is re-elected and that must happen in Meru. However, he has to face people directly to avert the increasing rebellion,” he said.

The rebel ODM MP added: “Some people mislead the president at the top and we have to tame them. Meru is a Jubilee zone which we have to protect jealously.”

Aburi, a longtime friend of Odinga family further claimed if his ‘brother’ Raila takes over, he would seek political asylum to avoid being killed.

On Monday, Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi warned that Jubilee risked losing in Meru region should the president fail to listen to issues affecting residents.
