Two Kenyans have allegedly disappeared with millions of shillings meant for the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s campaign.
The funds to boost Raila’s campaign and help 'adopt a polling station' strategy that NASA plans to use to guard its presidential votes were raised by Raila's supporters living in Minnesota, USA, through an online platform, GoFundMe.
NASA Diaspora United chairman, Omweri Kebwato, told the People Daily that the two left for Kenya last month to deliver the cash to the secretariat managing ODM party leader's campaign.
“I contacted Orange House to verify whether the party had received our contributions but I was surprised to learn that the money never reached there,” Kebwato told the local daily.
He said his efforts to trace the two have been unsuccessful.
Kebwato said of the individuals involved in the scam was a one-time parliamentary candidate in Gusii, while the other hails from Luo-Nyanza.
"Some Kenyans in America came together and agreed to raise money to foster our candidate's bid. Our intentions were good but it appears others sometimes have sinister motives,” he added.
