Opposition leader Raila Odinga has challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to show the projects he keeps on telling Kenyans his administration has implemented.
Raila said if the projects were tangible then there was no need for the Head of State to move around the country chest thumbing and praising his development record.“If indeed you have performed and the results seen, why keep on telling Kenyans of what you have done because they would be seeing for themselves?” a charged Raila said at a rally in Kilifi on Thursday.“Where are the roads? Where are the new electricity connections? If these projects are real why open a website bombarding Kenyans with information of what you have done? We would be seeing these things ourselves.”Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto are campaigning for a second term riding on the “successes” their leadership has scored since they were elected into office in 2013.The two say the Jubilee administration has constructed more roads than any other regime since independence. They also say, under Jubilee, over two million Kenyans have been connected to the national grid through intensive extension of electricity to individual homes and institutions.Uhuru and Ruto also boast of the fact that through their leadership, Kenya has constructed a new railway line, SGR, which the opposition alleges was used for swindling money amounting to Sh100 billion through budgetary inflations. While on a campaign trail in Kakamega on Wednesday, UhuRuto told Raila to swallow his pride and accept Jubilee was on track transforming Kenyans’ lives.
