Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s close people and allies have been among those who received the biggest blow in the recently concluded ODM primaries.
His brother Oburu Odinga was the first to face the axe after Bondo voters sent him home through the ballot, dimming his efforts to serve as an elected MP after the current term where he was nominated to Parliament.
Raila's cousin Jakoyo Midiwo (Gem MP) and Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma are the other big shots who lost their bids to defend their current seats after ODM upheld victories of their rivals.
Midiwo and Oburu's fate's were sealed yesterday Sunday after ODM's National Elections Board (NEB) declared Elisha Otieno Ochieng and Gideon Ochanda the party nominees for Gem and Bondo constituencies respectively.
Rangua therefore becomes the first governor from Nyanza to lose the party's ticket after ODM assigned Anyang Nyong'o with the task.
As it stands, things cannot be undone since Nyando MP Fred Outa has already received the party's ticket to replace Nyong’o as Kisumu senator.
Elsewhere, Rebel Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura was shown the doors after his rival Fred Ouda received the party's ticket and blessings to vie for the seat in the next polls.
Governor Okoth Obado and former Rongo constituency MP Ochillo Ayacko are in a deadlock over who will fly the ODM flag for governor.
